Free Games

Five – count ‘em – five buzz-worthy games have been release for legitimately free download today, significantly decreasing the odds that college students just returning to campuses across the nation will be hitting the books early.

First up and most notable, EA has released the original Command & Conquer, one of the most popular Real Time Strategy games of all time, as an ISO to commemorate the twelfth anniversary of the game’s release. You can download the classic game at Commandandconquer.com.

Next up, the immensely popular Lord of the Rings Online MMORPG is offering up a week long free trial in an attempt to draw in more users. The game features over 200 quests, and, according to Codemasters, aims to “take players beyond the books to a place where they can create their own story within the most famous fantasy world of all time.” You can try the game out at trylotro.com.

Far CryFinally, Ubisoft has released free versions of Far Cry, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, and Rayman Raving Rabbids. Of the three games, Far Cry is easily the best known and most enjoyable. It’s the game that appeared from leftfield to single-handedly wiped out the well-marketed launch sales figures of Doom 3 and Half-Life 2, two of the most anticipate sequels in gaming history. This is the game that surprised the market, and with late 64-bit enhancements and graphic modifications, it still plays as well as anything you could pick up off the shelf of your local Best Buy. The catch is that the titles are ad-supported, though it is a minor inconvenience.

Download Far Cry Free version at FilePlanet.
Download Prince of Persia: Sands of Time at FilePlanet.
Download Rayman Raving Rabbids Free version at FilePlanet.

All in all, this should be a great week for gaming at no cost! Enjoy.
