Baltar is my HomeBoyThere’s only one season left before you fan boi love becomes dated and the wait for your pristinely boxed BSG merchandise’s value to increase begins. So revel in your BattleStar Galactica fandom while you still can!

This shirt in particular is just oblique enough of a reference to fall into that narrow categorization “Geek Chic.” It’s available now in black or white in sizes up to 2X Large for US$19.00 at enclothe.

If you’re looking for something a little more prosaic, check out the BattleStar Galactica t-shirts at BattleStar Online or at Stylin Online.

Human Skin becomes Interactive

Mar 5 2008 Kommentarfunktion aus  292 views

Electronic Tattoo DisplayIf a cooler concept than this has made headlines this year, I haven’t seen it. Designer Jim Mielke has recently envisioned this little beauty as the next step in the long evolution of near-reality science fiction communication devices. It’s a a subcutaneous touch-screen that currently serves as a cellphone display.

The interface is an extremely thin, nearly skin-flexible silicon Bluetooth device powered by a fuel cell which converts glucose and oxygen into electricity. It’s surgically inserted as a rolled-up tube, which is then unfurled beneath the skin. (Yeech!) Once it’s installed, the display’s surface uses microscopic spheres to display data through the skin. When the unit receives a call, it actually plays video right on the user’s skin. Once the device is deactivated at the end of a call, it’s completely unnoticeable.

The kickers is that, while this gadget may take cellphone compulsions to an all-time high, it may actually be beneficial in respect to a user’s physical health, because, as the power unit processes blood, it would ideally screen for a range of blood disorders.

Too bad it’s only a concept, but, thirty years ago, people were saying the same thing about Kirk’s communicator, so here’s hoping!

Han Solo Carbonite Desk

Hans Solo Carbonite Desk

This custom designed desk from Tom Spina Designs features Hans Solo trapped in a block of carbonite held up on Empirial-style legs has to be the single coolest piece of office furniture in existence. Of course, the fact that there is no price listed for it leads me to believe that it’s well out of my price range.

The site also features a host of interesting stuff, such as full size replicas of Jabba the Hutt and the band from the Mos Eisley Cantina and a lot of custom stuff.

Not sure that you want Hilary or Obama running a campaign, much less a nation? Show your contempt for the political process with a Cthulhu Hastur t-shirt or campaign button!

I stumble on these gems over at CafePress, and I just had to post them.

The Dell World of Warcraft Laptop

Dell has unveiled the XPS M1730 World of Warcraft Edition notebook with diehard Warcraft addicts in mind. The notebook features all of Dell’s top of the line components, including an optional over-clockable Intel Extreme Edition Core 2 Duo processor with clock speeds of up to 3.4GHz, NVIDIA SLI graphics, an Ageia mobile PhysX processor, an illuminated keyboard, a built-in camera, 512MB of dedicated video RAM, and a 17-inch monitor. Plus, the notebook features several extras, such as WoW pre-installed, a limited edition strategy guides, a redeemable in-game pet, a WoW backpack, and a DVD.

A bit of overkill? Definitely. You could probably re-compile the source code for World of Warcraft of Warcraft each time you play using this set up, but as we all know, overkill is what a true Geek is all about. Unfortunately, this set up is go to cost you as much as US$4,450 over a Christmas holiday that is shaping up to be a that is a race to see who can offer up the cheapest laptop.

Check out the full details at Dell.

Tetris Quilt

Nov 6 2007 Kommentarfunktion aus  295 views

Tetris QuiltAlright, I’m not a quilt aficionado, but this has to be the greatest quilt ever made. It was recently featured in Make Magazine, in the “Best of Craft” column. This would look awesome on my bed, but it would probably give me video game nightmares, like I get every time I start playing the latest release without finishing it before bed. (But my Halo nightmares are the stuff of another post…) I’d probably wake up with blisters on my thumbs.
