Have you ever found yourself daydreaming about what Darth Vader’s head might look like eighty-six feet tall? Me neither, but evidently, Belgians have more active imaginations, because built just that. And it is awesome!
Though, if I saw this coming over the horizon as I drove down the road, I might have to swerve over to the side of the road and check my emergency Bible (kept in glove compartment along with holy water, silver stakes, hairspray, and proof of insurance, in case of apocalypse) to make certain that it wasn’t one of the signs of the apocalypse.
The balloon was first inflated on April 16, after being sent back to the shop once for alterations. (Evidently the first version just wasn’t evil enough.) It’s now available for appearances throughout Belgium.
Check out these specs:
26 meters ( 86 feet) high, basket included
21 meters ( 69 feet) wide
24 meters ( 78 feet) depth
estimated hot air volume 3.000 cubic meters ( 106,000 cubic feet)
estimated weight 290 kilos ( 640 lb)
