Art

  • The winners of the 16th annual Spectrum Awards, celebrating the best in fantastical art, have been announced. The covers of Buffy the Vampire Slayer #14 and Annihilation: Conquest #5 took the prizes in the comic category.

Comics

  • Jinni runs down the Based-on-a-Graphic-Novel Film Hall of Fame

Film

  • NBC has posted the Watchmen trailer along with character profiles.
  • While I often enjoy reading the editorials of The Torch Online, I have to disagree with their assertion that Tim Burton is Waaaaaay Over-Rated. I personally think that Burton has built a reliably high-quality brand about himself.

Internet

  • Don’t miss Wired’s coverage of the WonderCon. Damn, but I wish I were there!
  • The Jedi Knights are known for their supposed ability to perform “miracles.” They can influence others’ thoughts with a wave of their hand, use a slender light saber to deflect blaster bolts with their eyes closed, jump great heights in full gravity, move objects without touching them, see into the future, and do many other things that normal people can’t. Or so they claim.

Literature

  • Free Fiction: Random House has announced the release of five free novels as part of its Suvudu Free Book Library, which is intended to introduce the new internet generation to some of its more popular series. The titles include “Assassin’s Apprentice” by Robin Hobb and “His Majesty’s Dragon” by Naomi Novik.
  • Free Fiction: Read “Chemical Magic” by Katherine Sparrow at Fantasy Magazine.

Television

  • Cliff Chapman over at the Den of Geek nominates Ten Doctor Who monsters that should return.
  • Is anyone surprised that, stuck in a Friday night time slot, Doll House and Sarah Connor aren’t doing well rating-wise? Well, it looks like Fox is surprised, because they’re Terminating the Sarah Conner Chronicles at the end of season 2.
  • Stop the presses! There could be another Star Trek television series. Let’s all observe a silent moment for prayer.
  • You can now watch all thirteen episodes of the sadly short-lived Blade: The Series on Joost. It was a decent series – better than the majority of fantasy and sci-fi programming on television.

Video Games

  • Tripbase has posted a gallery of Stunning Videogame Locales, starting with American McGee’s Alice.
