It happens to every hardcore gamer at some point. The hottest new game that takes advantage of all the latest hardware hits store shelves, and you rush out to buy it. Only, when you get to the store, you hesitate, box in hand. The game is brand new, and your machine two years old. Are they compatible? If they’re compatible, will the game run smoothly? We all know that the guidelines on the box are written by the marketing department, not the developers.
Thankfully, there’s finally a solution. Futuremark is offering a set of programs that benchmark your system and give you the straight dope on whether or not you’re going to get your money’s worth out of the top games on the market. Not only will Futuremark’s software rate the likely performance of games, it’ll also suggest hardware that would help in bringing your system up to snuff in short order.
This site is so brilliant I honestly don’t know why someone didn’t do it sooner. To hear more about Futuremark, head over to one of my favorite podcasts, GeekSpeak, where Nick Evanson, Editor-in-Chief of YouGamers, talks all about it. To give the software a try, head on over to the free trials.
