This morning Arthur Levine, editor of the American editions of the Harry Potter books, was on The Today Show, showing off the cover art for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, set to be released July 21st. Yet again, it seems that the US version of the cover will be kicking the ass of UK cover, but you can judge for yourself.

To see the full dust jackets, front and back, visit my favorite bastion of Harry Potter fandom, The Leaky Cauldron. They’re worth a look, if only because the rear of the US edition will feature Voldemort, which is a first for the books’ dust jackets.
The UK editions were released with the inside flaps, which give the official publisher’s summary of the book:
“Harry has been burdened with a dark, dangerous and seemingly impossible task: that of locating and destroying Voldemort’s remaining Horcruxes. Never has Harry felt so alone, or faced a future so full of shadows. But Harry must somehow find within himself the strength to complete the task he has been given. He must leave the warmth, safety , and companionship of The Burrow and follow without fear or hesitation the inexorable path laid out for him…
In this final, seventh installment of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling unveils in spectacular fashion the answers to the many questions that have been so eagerly awaited. The spellbinding, richly woven narrative, which plunges, twists and turns at a breathtaking pace, confirms the author as a mistress of storytelling, whose books will be read, reread and read again.”
The back of the third cover, the “adult” edition also includes a (very) brief teaser:
“Harry is waiting in Privet Drive. The Order of the Phoenix is coming to escort him safely away without Voldemort and his supporters knowing – if they can. But what will Harry do then? How can he fulfil the momentous and seemingly impossible task that Professor Dumbledore has left him with?”
The interview and the dust jacket blurbs and interview have revealed quite a bit that we didn’t previously know about the book. First of all, we now know that the Dursleys will be making yet another appearance at the beginning of the upcoming book. Since the publication of the last book, many have speculated that Harry may have gone home with Ron at the end of the previous school year in order to participate in the Weasley family’s wedding festivities.
Last June, author J.K. Rowling announced to fans that two of her books’ characters will die in the final installment in the series. During this morning’s interview, Levine claims that he didn’t just cry, but sobbed through the ending of the book. This statement puts the kibosh on speculation that the two character to die will be Voldemort and one of his cronies.
