Ctrl+Alt+Del follows the misadventures of two die-hard gaming roommates and a Linux user as the deal with everyday challenges to the extreme. Ethan is an eccentric gamer with severe illusions of grandeur, who, while completely out of touch with reality, is friendly yet dangerous. Lucas is the brains behind every operation, and often keeps a close eye on Ethan, in order to help him out of trouble. Scott is the third roommate, not quite a gamer, but an expert with Linux, he is very rarely seen and owns a penguin. Lilah is Ethan’s girlfriend. Nobody really knows how he is ABLE to get a girlfriend, but Lilah is brainy, beautiful and owns in UT2004. Not only is Ctrl+Alt+Del my personal favorite webcomic, but several popular webcomic forums have given it their top ranking. It’s hilarious even if you’re not a gamer! Updated twice weekly.

Dueling Analogs is a color webcomic that lampoons the characters, culture and subtext of modern gaming culture. The are no story arcs to keep up with – each comic is stand alone joke. The first strip opens on Luigi of the Mario Brothers bent over a table as a proctacologist chastises him not to store money and keys in his anus, and the strips only get funnier from there. The humor reminds me of the Comedy Central series, “Drawn Together.” Definitely for mature audiences only.

Everybody Loves Eric Raymond is a funny, geeky comic strip sitcom about a group apartment in which, inexplicably, Richard Stallman, Linus Torvalds and Eric Raymond are all roommates. The jokes are ALL free/open source software in-jokes, but they’re often very funny, and the idea gets tons of bonus points for being so stupendously weird and well-executed. Definitely a must-read for the cerebral programming Geeks out there.

Mega Tokyo. Two hardcore American gamers get stuck in Tokyo with no money, where they have to deal with ninjas, giant lizards, androids, the undead, schoolgirls and … well, you’ll have to read the comic to find out what all else. Fred Gallagher’s pencil work has made reading Megatokyo’s engrossing storylines a real treat for me over the past few years. I would recommend this site to anyone with an interest in drawing for a living or for anyone who simply love anime. Also, once you’ve become a hardcore fan (so, maybe ten minutes into reading the strip?), you’ll want to check out fredart http://www.fredart.com/ , Gallagher’s blog/portfolio.

The Order of the Stick is a comic based around a questing band of very self-aware Dungeons and Dragons players. Two things make this comic stand apart. The first and most obvious is the stick-figure style in which all the characters are drawn (which will in NO way detract from your enjoyment of the comic). But what makes this comic truely memorable is the fantastic characterization. Despite the fact that The Order of the Stick has more dialog than any other web comic that I’ve ever read, it always leaves you hungry for more. The Order is funny for all, but downright addictive for those of use who actually understand the in’s and out’s of a real game of D&D.

Penny Arcade. Alright, if you haven’t heard of this one, you’ve either been living in a parralell dimension or you’ve just escaped from an extended stay in Abu Ghraib. Penny Arcade is a hilarious look at the video game world: the creators of games, the producers, the players, the nuances, and all the things that make video games what they are. It’s crazy, unpredictable style of humor is wonderful. This is sort of the “original webcomic.” I don’t know if there’s a webcomic that been around longer, but if there is, it’s withering away in relative obscurity somewhere.

Real Life Comics follows the exploits of a group of friends.
