The World’s Most Beautiful Libraries

25 Jul 2009  Books

I make no secret of the fact that I’m a hardcore bibliophile, but we’re a common enough lot these day. And the one sight that always makes me linger over a webpage is rows and rows of neatly organized books. So, in an effort to draw more like-minded read here to my little blog, I decided to round-up a gallery of photos of some of the most beautiful libraries I’ve ever seen photos of. Enjoy.

    Great photos and lovely libraries.

I hate the GumGum ads clogging up the photos though!

The Long Room Library in Trinity College in Dublin is pretty impressive as well. The Jedi archives in the Star wars movies is based on that one.

Linderman Library at Lehigh University is absolutely beautiful. I wouldn’t want to study anywhere else!

The public library in Manlius, NY isn’t spectacular but the small museum it has, complete with a mummy, is pretty awesome.

I would have to admit to being a bibliophile and a geek so loved this. I would also have to admit that walking through the doors of any of those places would cause me to stop dead in my tracks look up and stare with my mouth hanging open. Wow. Thanks for the post.

lovely choice. A third library in Austria is the one at the Monastery at Admont, another example of high baroque architecture with a treasure trvove of manuscripts and books.

I want to take a moment to add to the complaints of the advertisements on each photo. The pictures are indeed lovely, but the poor placement of the advertisements have caused me to decide not to ad this site to my favorites list.

    Thank you.

  • Dawnstar

Wow,some of those are really pretty.

  • Dawnstar

Wow, those take my breath away

  • Dawnstar

Sorry, i said the same thing twice. The website told me to try again. Sorry about that. :)

Might I respectfully suggest The Long Room at Trinity College Library, Dublin, Ireland? It is a sight to behold. Fantastic idea for a blog post, thank you for compiling these here for everyone’s enjoyment :)

  • Cherry Coffrin

I love to read and spend time in my town’s library. When you tell people you were at the library for an hour,
they look at you like you are insane. People that don’t read, don’t get it! My goodness, I would love to see these libraries, I could stay forever. Do you reading addicts agree? The smell of old books is intoxicating!!!

  • Trencher

The adds that pop in every single photo are pretty annoying.
