His tales of Turin Turambar were some of the most complete of his unfinished writings, and Christopher has done an excellent job of compiling and editing them. This is a much darker and more lurid tale than LotR, and readers should not expect a happy, sunny tale. The hero is cursed by the Dark Lord himself, and a pall of doom hangs over his head. It has the "feel" of mythology, with no furry-toed hobbits to mediate between the heroic world and the modern one.
